The Potrero tour does not have fixed visiting hours, since it is an open area with several beaches and points of interest. You can visit at any time of day. To get there, we recommend renting a car or taking a taxi from Liberia or Tamarindo, as public transportation can be limited in some areas. There are excellent routes on Waze available.

The good news is that enjoying the beaches and most of Potrero’s charms is completely free! However, if you decide to take part in specific water activities or organized excursions, such as snorkeling or sailing tours, these will have an additional cost. Feel free to ask at local hotels or dive centers about options and prices.

To explore Potrero and its surroundings without rushing, we suggest setting aside at least one full day, although two days would be ideal. This will allow you to enjoy several beaches, perhaps a hike, and try the local cuisine at a relaxed pace. If you are looking for a more immersive experience, you could even consider spending a whole weekend.

Although Potrero is now a popular tourist destination, it has roots in fishing and agriculture. Its name, which means "pasture" or "grassland," speaks to its rural past. The best time to visit Potrero is during the dry season, from December to April. You will enjoy clear skies, plenty of sunshine, and pleasant temperatures, perfect for the beach and outdoor activities. The rainy season, from May to November, also has its charm, with greener landscapes, although there are occasional showers.

Access to the beaches and some establishments in Potrero can be challenging for people with reduced mobility, as not all infrastructure is fully adapted. Some beaches have easier access than others. There is a lot to discover near Potrero! Do not miss the stunning Conchal, Flamingo, and Penca beaches.
