A cultural space that preserves and shares the historical memory of Manizales and the Caldas region.
The History Center is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. On Saturdays it usually opens with reduced hours (9:00 am to 1:00 pm), but we recommend confirming directly by phone at +57 606 884 1424 before visiting. You can see updates on the Manizales City Hall website.
Admission is completely free for all visitors. Some temporary exhibitions may request a voluntary contribution, but it is not required. It is a good idea to bring cash in case you would like to support one of the center's cultural initiatives.
It is suggested to set aside between 1 and 1.5 hours to tour all the rooms, although it depends on your interest in history. The permanent collection includes historic photographs, founding documents, and objects from the Antioquia colonization.
The building, constructed in 1925, was a key witness to the region's coffee-driven development. It houses archives that document the founding of Manizales in 1849 and its evolution as a cultural hub of the Coffee Region. It is recognized as a Cultural Heritage Site.
The driest months, from January to March, are ideal for combining the visit with other urban tours. Wednesday mornings usually have fewer tourists. Avoid local holidays, when large events are often held.
The first floor is accessible with ramps and adapted restrooms. However, the second level can only be reached by stairs. Contact +57 606 884 1424 to request specific assistance or confirm current conditions.
A 5-minute walk away you will find Manizales Cathedral Basilica, the Caldas Art Museum, and Bolívar Square. Plan a full day with this historic downtown circuit.
1) Wear comfortable shoes: the floor is made of original wood. 2) Ask about the free guided tours, available with reservation. 3) Flash-free photography is allowed. For updated information, check their official Facebook page.
