Un vasto pulmón de la Amazonia colombiana que protege una biodiversidad única y las tradiciones de comunidades indígenas como los tikunas y boras.
The park is open year-round, but visits usually take place from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a mandatory reservation. From Leticia, take a boat along the Amazon River (20–30 minutes) to the visitor center; you can arrange it with local agencies or directly at the port. More info on the official National Parks website.
The entrance fee is COP 23,000 for Colombian adults and COP 62,000 for foreigners (approximate 2023 prices; check for updates). It includes park admission, but guided activities or accommodation have extra costs; children under 5 enter free. Book and pay online through National Parks.
It is recommended to spend at least one full day (6–8 hours) for trails and wildlife observation, or 2 days if you include an overnight stay on the platforms. Main walks such as the El Encanto trail take 2–3 hours. Plan according to your pace so you do not rush.
Created in 1975, it protects 295,000 hectares of primary Amazon rainforest, home to thousands of species such as pink river dolphins, monkeys, and exotic birds. It is key to conserving biodiversity and Ticuna culture, with ongoing scientific research. Learn more on the official portal.
The dry season (June–September and December–January) is ideal because of less rain and better wildlife sightings. Go early in the morning (from 6:00 a.m.) to see active monkeys and birds while avoiding the midday heat. Avoid the peak rainy season (March–May) because of flooding.
Unfortunately, the trails are uneven and deep in the rainforest, making them unsuitable for wheelchairs or reduced mobility; walking on wet ground is required. Contact the administrative center (phone: +57 8 592 6629) for limited options such as the first viewpoints. Check details at National Parks.
Nearby is Monkey Island (15 minutes by boat), ideal for interacting with rehabilitated primates, and Puerto Nariño (2 hours upriver), an eco-friendly town with no cars. In Leticia, explore the Leticia Market for Indigenous handicrafts.
Bring strong insect repellent, light long-sleeved clothing, rubber boots, binoculars, and water; hire a local guide to maximize wildlife sightings. Book in advance through the reservation system and do not leave trash behind to preserve the rainforest. Yellow fever vaccination is recommended.
