A site of incalculable value that reveals the geological and anthropological history of Guaviare through its rock formations and rock art.
The site generally welcomes visitors every day from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and it is best to arrive early to avoid crowds. It is only 15 minutes from the town center, and you can easily get there by taxi or by hiring a local motorized rickshaw.
Admission usually ranges from COP 15,000 to COP 30,000 per person, a very affordable price for the quality of the scenery. Keep in mind that a local guide is mandatory, and this service helps support conservation of the site; bring cash, as card terminals are usually not available.
To enjoy it without rushing, swim in the permitted areas, and take good photos, allow between 2 and 3 hours. If you are a nature lover who enjoys observing every detail of the flora, you could extend your visit to half a day by combining it with nearby hikes.
Tranquilandia is home to *Macarenia clavigera*, an endemic aquatic plant that colors the river in shades of magenta, red, and green. Visiting it means connecting with a unique ecosystem, considered the ‘little brother’ of Caño Cristales, vital to the biodiversity of the La Lindosa mountain range.
If you want to see the pink algae phenomenon, you should travel during the rainy season, specifically between June and November. Outside these dates, in the dry season, the water level drops and the plants enter a dormant period, losing their vibrant color.
The terrain is natural, rocky, and can be slippery, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs and is not recommended for people with very limited mobility. However, access to the entrance area is easy, so you can still enjoy the immediate surroundings without doing the full hike.
You are in a strategic location; very close by you will find the impressive Orion Gate, an iconic rock formation. You can also visit the Natural Bridges to complete a route of spectacular geological formations in the same day.
Most importantly: do not use sunscreen, insect repellent, or creams if you are going into the water, as they irreparably damage the aquatic plants. Wear a long-sleeved shirt for sun protection, shoes with good grip that can get wet, and bring water in reusable bottles.
