Un tesoro sonoro en Valledupar que celebra el instrumento rey del vallenato, con una vasta colección de acordeones que narran la historia musical del Caribe colombiano.
The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. On Sundays, it is open only in the morning. It is located at Carrera 7 #4-79, in downtown Valledupar. You can confirm updated hours on the local tourism portal.
General admission has a symbolic cost of around COP 5,000 (2023 prices). Children under 12 and seniors enter free of charge. We recommend confirming current rates in case of changes.
A full visit takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. The tour includes historic accordions, photographs of vallenato legends, and interactive exhibits about this musical heritage.
It is the only museum dedicated to preserving the history of the accordion in Colombia, the central instrument of vallenato (UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity). It houses accordions once played by masters such as Francisco 'the Man' and Emiliano Zuleta.
April is ideal because of the Vallenato Legend Festival (during the week of the 26th), when the museum offers special programming. Avoid the hottest hours of the day (11 am - 3 pm), as air conditioning is limited.
It has access ramps and a ground-floor exhibition area, but the upper rooms are accessible only by stairs. Contact the museum in advance at +57 313 4567890 for special assistance.
Three blocks away is Alfonso López Square, the heart of vallenato, as well as Algarrobillos Park. Ten minutes away, the Wayuu Territory Museum offers another cultural perspective.
1) Arrive before 10 am to avoid school groups. 2) Ask for the live accordion demonstration (scheduled times). 3) Visit the craft shop for authentic vallenato music souvenirs.
