San Cipriano is a nature reserve and does not have a formal 'opening' time, but access is mainly through organized tours from Buenaventura or on your own by arriving in Córdoba. The jeeps or the 'rail cart' (a local transport method that runs on rails) operate from very early in the morning until sunset, making access easy. I recommend arriving early to make the most of the day.

Entry to the San Cipriano Nature Reserve has a symbolic fee, managed by the local community for the upkeep of the area. In addition, you will need to pay for transportation there (jeep, rail cart) and, if you wish, a local guide or tube rental for river tubing.

To fully enjoy San Cipriano Waterfall and its surroundings, including river tubing and the trails, it is recommended to set aside a full day. You can easily spend 4 to 6 hours there, but many people choose to arrive in the morning and return in the late afternoon.

San Cipriano Waterfall is part of a nature reserve that preserves the tropical rainforest of Colombia’s Pacific region. Its importance lies in the rich biodiversity it shelters and in being an example of sustainable community-based tourism, managed by local Afro-descendant communities. It does not have a conventional 'historical' story, but it has great ecological and cultural value.

The best time to visit San Cipriano is during the less rainy season, which is usually from December to March and from July to August. However, as this is a tropical rainforest area, rain is common throughout the year. As for the time of day, it is ideal to arrive in the morning (before 10 a.m.) to avoid crowds and enjoy the river peacefully.

Unfortunately, access to San Cipriano Waterfall and getting around within the reserve are not ideal for people with reduced mobility. The rail cart ride can be difficult, and the trails to the waterfall are natural, with uneven and rocky terrain that requires some physical ability. There are efforts to improve the infrastructure, but it is still limited.

Since you are in Buenaventura, you can explore the port city and its local cuisine. Near San Cipriano, the main attraction is the river and the rainforest itself.
