Donde las plantas tienen más drama que una telenovela y las iguanas son las verdaderas dueñas
The Botanical Garden of Medellín is open Monday to Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is very easy to reach using the Medellín Metro by getting off at Universidad Station; the entrance is right next door.
Good news! Access to the Botanical Garden of Medellín is completely free for the general public. So you can enjoy all its beauty without worrying about your wallet.
To have a good experience and enjoy the different collections and corners of the Botanical Garden, I would recommend setting aside at least between 2 and 3 hours. If you enjoy photography or sitting down to relax, you could easily stay longer.
The Botanical Garden is part of Medellín’s historical memory, as it was the first Experimental Agricultural Station of Antioquia, founded in 1913. Since then, it has evolved into an important center for research, conservation of Colombian flora, and environmental education, serving as a vital green lung for the city while promoting botanical culture and appreciation of biodiversity.
Medellín is known as the 'City of Eternal Spring,' so any time of year is a good time to visit. However, to avoid the strongest heat and enjoy pleasant light, I suggest going early in the morning (9:00 a.m.) or later in the afternoon.
The Botanical Garden is designed to be an inclusive space. It has accessible, mostly flat paths and walkways throughout most of its areas, which makes visiting easier for people with reduced mobility or those using wheelchairs. You can also check with the staff at the entrance for recommended routes.
You are in a great area. Right next to the Botanical Garden is Explora Park, an interactive science museum, and the Medellín Planetarium. You can also walk a bit farther to the University of Antioquia Campus, which has very interesting buildings and green spaces.
Of course, here are a few: wear comfortable clothes and suitable walking shoes, bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated, and don’t forget your camera to capture the beauty of the plants. You can also stop by the Botanical Garden Shop if you would like to take home a souvenir.
