¿Sabías que esta pagoda fue construida para calmar las mareas... y al fantasma de un ministro suicida?
The Pagoda is open daily from 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM (last entry at 5:00 PM). You can get there by tourist bus Y6 to the Liuhe Pagoda stop, or by taxi from downtown Hangzhou (about 20 minutes). More details on the official Hangzhou government website.
The general price is 30 CNY (about €4), with a discounted rate of 15 CNY for students. Children under 1.2 meters tall enter free. You can buy tickets at the ticket office or in advance on authorized sites.
A complete visit takes between 1 and 2 hours. This includes climbing the 7 floors of the pagoda (196 steps), exploring the surrounding gardens, and enjoying the panoramic views of the Qiantang River.
Originally built in 970 AD during the Northern Song dynasty, its hexagonal design symbolizes the Six Harmonies of Buddhism: harmony of heaven, earth, north, south, east, and west. It was renovated several times after damage from wars and fires.
Autumn (September to November) offers pleasant temperatures and fall foliage. It is also spectacular to visit during the renowned Qiantang River Tidal Bore Festival (September-October). Avoid rainy days due to low visibility.
The exterior and gardens are wheelchair accessible, but the interior of the pagoda has narrow and steep stairs. There are accessible restrooms and ramps in the entrance area. We recommend going with a companion.
Nearby you can visit the China Sausage Museum (10 min walk), Tiger Hill Park (covering 2,000 years of Hangzhou history, 20 min by taxi), and Lingyin Temple (ranked as the most important Buddhist temple in China, 40 minutes by bus).
Wear comfortable shoes for climbing the floors, bring water (available at nearby stalls), and take advantage of shaded areas in summer. Avoid national holidays due to crowds. For up-to-date information, check the tourist hotline: +86 571 8796 0043.
