The Huangshan Scenic Area generally opens from 07:00 to 17:30, although in winter it may close a little earlier. The most efficient way to get there is by taking the Yuping Cable Car, which drops you very close to the main attractions and avoids a strenuous climb.

Access to the tunnel is included in the general Huangshan admission ticket (about CNY 190 in high season and CNY 150 in low season). However, you should factor in the additional cable car cost (around CNY 90 each way) and book in advance on the official tourism website.

I recommend allowing 1 to 2 hours to explore the Yupinglou area, the tunnel, and take photos. If you plan to combine it with the climb to Celestial Capital Peak (Tiandu Feng), you should add at least 2 or 3 more hours of intense hiking.

This area is known as the 'Imperial Palace of Heaven' and has been a muse for Chinese poets and painters for centuries. It is home to ancient stone inscriptions and the famous Welcoming-Guest Pine, a symbol of hospitality throughout China.

Sunrise is the magical moment to see the famous 'Sea of Clouds,' especially in autumn or spring when the weather is cooler. Try to arrive early in the morning to avoid the large tourist crowds that usually fill the narrow passages by midday.

Unfortunately, due to the mountainous terrain and steep stairways ('stairs to heaven'), the tunnel is not wheelchair accessible. However, porter chair services are sometimes available in the main plaza for an additional cost.

You are in the heart of the mountain: right next to it you will find the iconic Welcoming-Guest Pine and Lotus Peak (Lianhua Feng). It is the ideal starting point for routes toward Celestial Capital Peak, offering some of the most dizzying views of Huangshan (UNESCO).

The weather changes within minutes, so always bring a light raincoat and trekking shoes with good grip for the stone steps. Bring water and snacks, as prices at the summit are quite high, and be prepared to climb many steps.
