Imagina dos emperadores chinos capturados en su propio palacio por invasores nómadas: aquí empezó el fin de un imperio legendario.
Dragon Pavilion (Longting) in Kaifeng generally opens from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. You can get there by taxi or local bus from downtown Kaifeng. It is an easy distance and well signposted. I recommend checking the exact hours on the official website before your visit to avoid surprises.
Admission to Dragon Pavilion costs approximately 45–60 CNY. Although you may be able to buy a ticket at the entrance when you arrive, it is always a good idea to check whether online purchase options are available through local travel agencies or Chinese platforms, though English availability may vary. I suggest bringing cash just in case.
For a full and unhurried visit to Dragon Pavilion, including its surrounding gardens and exploration of its three pavilions, I recommend allowing 2 to 3 hours. If you enjoy photography or are deeply interested in history, you might want to stay a little longer.
Dragon Pavilion stands on the ruins of the former imperial palace of the Northern Song dynasty, when Kaifeng was the capital of China for more than 160 years. Although the current pavilion is not the original one, its location and the artifacts on display commemorate Kaifeng’s rich imperial history, making it a symbol of its glorious past as a political and cultural center.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times to visit Kaifeng, as the weather is milder. To avoid crowds and enjoy the best light for photos, I suggest going early in the morning just after opening, or later in the afternoon.
Because of the historic nature of the site and the presence of stairs, especially to access the main pavilion raised on a platform, accessibility may be limited. There are paved paths in the gardens, but I recommend contacting the park administration directly if you have specific needs. Kaifeng tourist information can be reached at +86 378 2871111.
Absolutely! Kaifeng is full of history. Very close to Dragon Pavilion, you can visit the Tianbo Yang Mansion Garden, which commemorates the famous Yang family, or Wansui Mountain Park, known for its rock formations. The famous Xiangguo Temple is also nearby and is a must-see for its remarkable architecture and history.
First, wear comfortable shoes because you will do quite a bit of walking. Consider hiring a local guide or using an audio guide to fully understand the history and meaning of each corner of the site. Do not forget your camera, as there are many opportunities for spectacular photos, and bring water, especially in the hotter months. Enjoy the magic of this historic place!
