The resort usually operates its lifts from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for daytime skiing. The most efficient way to get there is to take the high-speed train from Harbin to Yabuli West Railway Station, a comfortable journey of about an hour and a half.

Prices vary depending on the area (Sun Mountain is more premium) and the duration (2 hours, half day, or full day), generally ranging from 200 to 500 RMB (30–70 USD). I recommend checking whether your hotel offers discounted packages that include equipment rental.

If your goal is to practice winter sports, it’s best to set aside at least 2 days and 1 night to explore the different slopes. If you’re only going as a tourist to enjoy the scenery and ride the sled, half a day or a full-day excursion from Harbin is enough.

Yabuli is the largest ski resort in China and serves as a training base for the national winter sports teams. Historically, this mountainous and forested area was used as a private hunting ground for the nobility of the Qing dynasty.

The official season runs from mid-November to late March, but the best time is between January and February to ensure good-quality snow. If possible, avoid the week of Chinese New Year so you don’t run into massive crowds.

The main hotels and dining areas at the base are usually accessible, but access to the mountain is limited for wheelchairs. However, it is still an enjoyable place for non-skiers thanks to the panoramic views and relaxed activities at the resort base.

Many travelers combine Yabuli with a visit to the magical China Snow Town (Shuangfeng Forest Farm), famous for its fairy-tale landscapes. In addition, being close to Harbin, it is the perfect complement to the Ice and Snow Festival.

The weather is extremely cold and dry, sometimes reaching -30°C, so it is vital to bring high-quality thermal clothing and face protection against the wind. Don’t miss the alpine slide, considered the longest in the world, for an extra dose of adrenaline.
