Discover Palacio Carrasco in Viña del Mar. A unique experience to learn about its history and significance.
Palacio Carrasco is located at 250 Libertad Avenue, between 3 Norte and 4 Norte, in the heart of Viña del Mar. Generally, its gardens are open to the public from Monday to Friday during office hours (9:00 AM to 6:00 PM), although schedules may vary depending on the scheduled municipal cultural activities.
Admission to walk through the gardens and enjoy the exterior architecture is completely free. Since it houses municipal offices and the Cultural Center, most of the temporary exhibitions held there are also free of charge, making it an ideal outing if you are watching your budget.
It is a short but rewarding visit; we recommend setting aside between 30 and 45 minutes. That is enough time to admire its French-style façade, stroll through its gardens, and appreciate the famous Rodin sculpture located at the front entrance.
Built in 1912 by architect Alfredo Azancot for businessman Emilio Carrasco, it is an icon of early 20th-century prosperity. It was declared a National Monument in 1986 and is vital to the city’s identity, having survived several major earthquakes.
Spring (September to November) is ideal because the gardens are at their most beautiful and the weather is pleasant. I suggest going in the morning, around 11:00 AM, to take advantage of the perfect natural light for photographs of its imposing façade.
The gardens and exterior area are flat and accessible for wheelchairs. However, due to its age and status as a heritage building, access to the interior may present architectural limitations; it is recommended to check availability with the security staff at the entrance.
You are in a prime location; just a few steps away you will find the famous Fonck Museum with its authentic Easter Island Moai. You can also walk a few blocks toward the coast to enjoy Vergara Pier and the waterfront promenade.
Do not leave without seeing the 'The Defense' sculpture by Auguste Rodin at the entrance, an unmissable artistic gem. Also, check the local events schedule before you go, as book fairs or craft markets are often set up in the front esplanade and greatly enrich the experience.
