A biodiversity sanctuary in the heart of Chile, Ñuble National Park invites visitors to explore Andean landscapes, native flora, and wild fauna.
The park is open year-round, generally from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., although it is recommended to check for weather-related updates. To get there, the main access is from Chillán via Route 55 to the Los Hualles sector; you can go by private car or take a bus from Chillán to the town of El Rosal. For more details, visit the official CONAF website.
Admission to Ñuble National Park is free for all visitors, as it is managed by CONAF with no access fee. However, if you plan to camp or use additional services, there may be small permit fees payable at the park entrance.
For a basic visit focused on hiking and landscape viewing, allow at least one full day (6–8 hours). If you want to explore deeper trails such as Cerro El Diablo or go camping, plan for 2–3 days to fully enjoy the biodiversity and lakes.
Created in 2016, Ñuble National Park protects around 85,000 hectares of Andean ecosystems in the mountains of the Ñuble Region. It stands out for its biodiversity, with endemic species and glacial lakes such as Laguna Colorada. Its importance lies in conserving native wildlife, such as the pudú and birds of prey, and in its role as a green lung for central Chile.
The best time is summer, from December to March, when the weather is warmer and drier, ideal for hiking. Visit early in the morning to avoid the midday heat and enjoy the best light for photos; sunset offers stunning mountain views.
Accessibility is limited due to its mountainous terrain and natural trails; however, the main entrance area and some short viewpoints are accessible with ramps and paved paths. It is recommended to contact CONAF at +56 9 9274 5230 for information about adapted options or assisted guides.
Near the park, you can visit Termas de Chillán for a relaxing thermal experience about 30 km away, or Laguna del Laja National Park, famous for its waterfalls and volcanoes, approximately 50 km away. In Chillán, explore the historic center with its market and cathedral, ideal for a combined day trip.
Bring water, sunscreen, comfortable hiking clothes, and insect repellent, as the weather changes quickly in the mountains. Book ahead if you plan to camp in designated areas and check the forecast on the CONAF website; also, follow Leave No Trace principles to help preserve the natural environment.
