Espejo de agua de intenso color verde turquesa en el corazón de la Araucanía chilena, rodeado de bosques milenarios y volcanes imponentes, un paraíso natural que invita a la contemplación y el descubrimiento.
Laguna Verde is located within Conguillío National Park, so it follows the park’s opening hours, generally from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (entry is only allowed until 2:00 p.m. in winter). The main access route is via Melipeuco toward the Truful Truful sector; the road is unpaved but passable with caution.
Yes. Since it is inside the national park, you must pay the CONAF entrance fee, which varies for locals, foreigners, children, and seniors. It is mandatory to reserve and buy your ticket online in advance at PasesParques.cl, as tickets are not sold at the entrance gate.
A visit to the main viewpoint and a short walk around the area will take about 30 to 45 minutes. If you plan to relax, take detailed photos of the emerald color, or have a picnic in the nearby designated areas, allow at least a full hour.
The lagoon was formed by eruptions of Llaima Volcano that dammed the waters, and its intense green color is due to bottom-dwelling algae and dissolved volcanic minerals. It is a site of great geological importance that shows the transformative power of volcanoes in the area.
The best time is between November and March (spring and summer), when the weather is more stable and the roads are clear of snow. I recommend visiting around midday, when the sun shines directly onto the water, intensifying its characteristic green color to the fullest.
It is relatively accessible; the lagoon is located right beside the main vehicle road, which allows you to see it without needing long walks. However, to go down to the shore itself, the ground is uneven, so it is recommended to stay at the upper viewpoints.
You are in a strategic location: very close by you will find the impressive Truful Truful Waterfall and the famous Valley of the Moon volcanic field. In addition, you have privileged, direct views of the imposing Llaima Volcano, the undisputed star of the landscape.
Wear layered clothing, with a windbreaker being essential, since the weather changes quickly in the mountains, and make sure to fuel up in Melipeuco before heading up. Do not forget to bring water and snacks, and remember to take all your trash back with you, as there are no bins in the park.
