¿Sabías que hace 3.000 años, unos antepasados tallaron en estas rocas escenas de caza que parecen un cómic prehistórico? Ven, te cuento los secretos que los locales guardamos.
The site is open 24 hours a day all year round, as it is an open-air area with free access. To get there, head to Pichidangui Beach in Los Vilos and follow the marked trail from the northern section of the beach, which takes about 20–30 minutes on foot. More info at the Municipality of Los Vilos.
The visit is completely free, with no entrance fee or reservation required. Just consider transportation or parking costs if you are driving. Check updates at Chile Travel.
It is recommended to allow between 1 and 2 hours to explore the petroglyphs and enjoy the views without rushing. This includes time for the ascent and descent along the trail. Ideal for a morning or late afternoon visit.
This site contains petroglyphs dating back around 3,000 years, created by pre-Columbian cultures such as El Molle, depicting human figures, animals, and hunting scenes. It is a key testimony to Indigenous occupation on the coast of Coquimbo. More details at Sernatur.
The best season is summer (December to March) because of the good weather, and preferably in the morning to avoid intense heat and get better light for viewing the petroglyphs. Avoid windy or rainy days in winter.
It is not fully accessible, as it requires climbing a steep, rocky trail with about 200 meters of elevation gain. It is recommended for people in good physical condition and is not suitable for wheelchairs. Contact the Municipality at +56 51 263 1313 for alternatives.
Nearby you will find Pichidangui Beach for relaxing, the Englishmen's Rock Fortress, and Fray Jorge National Park about 1 hour away by car. Also explore downtown Los Vilos and its coastal promenade. See the map at the Municipality of Los Vilos.
Bring comfortable shoes, water, sunscreen, and insect repellent; do not touch the petroglyphs in order to preserve them. Go with a local guide if possible and respect the signage. Download an audio guide at IAudioguia to enrich the experience.
