A haven of natural serenity in Puerto Montt, Green Lagoon is a refuge of biodiversity and tranquility, nestled within a volcanic and forested landscape.
The site is part of Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park and is usually accessible from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM year-round. It is located დაახლოებით at kilometer 55 on Route 225 toward Ensenada; you can check road and access conditions on the CONAF website.
Access to the specific Green Lagoon trail is free, although during high season there may be a parking fee in the surrounding area. It is an excellent low-cost stop before heading up the volcano or visiting other paid attractions.
The visit is short but full of beauty; it will take you between 30 and 45 minutes to walk the trail at a relaxed pace and take photographs. It is an easy walk, ideal for stretching your legs and connecting with nature.
The intense emerald color is due to the presence of microalgae and suspended minerals that do not settle. As it is a closed body of water with no external inflows, this unique visual phenomenon is created, which you can understand better with a specialized audio guide.
The summer months (December to March) offer the best weather, but if you are looking for peace and quiet, visit in spring or autumn. I recommend going around midday when the sun is high, as the vertical light intensifies the green color of the water.
The 'Green Lagoon' trail is short and easy, but the ground is dirt and may have uneven sections or exposed roots. Although it is manageable for families and older adults, it may present difficulties for standard wheelchairs.
You are in a strategic location: just a few minutes away you will find the famous Petrohué Falls and the base of Osorno Volcano. It is ideal to combine these three attractions in a single day trip.
Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes, as the ground is forested, and bring a windproof jacket even in summer. Remember that swimming in the lagoon is not allowed in order to protect its fragile ecosystem.
