Una isla donde fantasmas alemanes, poetas nacionales y leyendas chilotas juegan al escondite entre alerces milenarios.
The island is reached by boat from the Angelmó pier, with frequent departures from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in summer (times may vary due to weather). The trip takes about 15 minutes; check updated schedules on the Puerto Montt City Hall website or call +56 65 225 1515.
Access to the island is free, but you must pay for the boat ride, which is around 3,000-5,000 CLP per person each way (about 8,000 CLP round trip). Children and seniors receive discounts; check prices at the Angelmó pier.
Plan for 3 to 4 hours to enjoy the trails, viewpoints, and beaches without rushing, including boat travel time. If you take it slow for photos and rest, it could stretch to half a day.
Tenglo Island is a traditional enclave of the Huilliche Indigenous community, with petroglyphs and a rich pre-Columbian history; today it stands out for its natural viewpoints overlooking Osorno Volcano and the Chacao Channel. It represents the cultural and natural connection of the Chilote people.
Summer (December to March) is ideal thanks to the warm weather and long days; choose early morning to avoid strong winds and enjoy clear views of the volcano. Avoid winter because of bad weather and fewer boat services.
Boat access is possible, but the island's trails are uneven, steep, and have natural steps, so it is not recommended for wheelchairs or visitors with reduced mobility. Contact boat operators for adapted options.
Nearby, in Angelmó, visit the Angelmó Market for fresh seafood and handicrafts, or stroll along Angelmó Avenue. In Puerto Montt, Llanquihue Lake and Osorno Volcano are just minutes away by car.
Bring comfortable shoes, water, sunscreen, and snacks, as there are few services on the island; use insect repellent as well. Download an audio guide from IAudioguia to enrich the experience with local stories.
