The Esmeralda corvette is an icon of the War of the Pacific, sunk in the Battle of Iquique on May 21, 1879, under the command of Captain Arturo Prat. Recovered and turned into a museum in 1977, it preserves its Chilean naval and cultural legacy. It represents the heroism and maritime identity of Chile.

The best season is during the summer (December to March) for the good weather, and early in the morning to avoid the heat and crowds. Avoid weekends if you prefer fewer people; sunset offers beautiful views of the sea.
