Playa Grande is open year-round, 24 hours a day, as a public space, although services such as showers and restrooms operate mainly in summer (December to March). It is easily reached on foot from downtown Pucón via Playa Ancha Avenue, or by car with nearby parking; check the map on the official Pucón Municipality website.

Entry to Playa Grande is completely free, since it is a public beach on Lake Villarrica. You would only pay for parking if you arrive by car (around CLP 2,000 per day in high season) or for extra activities such as kayaking.

It is recommended to spend between 1 and 3 hours enjoying swimming, relaxing, or water sports, and longer if you plan a picnic or want to watch the sunset. It is ideal for a late-morning or afternoon visit.

Playa Grande is Pucón’s main swimming area on Lake Villarrica, with roots in the Mapuche Pehuenche culture that inhabited Araucanía, symbolizing the meeting of volcanic nature and Indigenous traditions. Today it is a tourist icon that reflects the area’s lakeside identity.

The best time is in summer (December to March) for swimming and sunbathing, preferably in the morning to avoid crowds or at sunset for views of Villarrica Volcano. Avoid strong winds in winter.

It has paved access points and partial ramps from the town center, but the sand can be difficult for wheelchairs; there are adapted areas near the pier. I recommend checking updates on Sernatur Araucanía or calling the municipality at +56 45 244 15 11.
