The church is usually open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., although hours may vary in the low season. It is located in the upper part of Melnik and can be reached on foot by following the main cobbled paths; you can easily find it on this location map.

Admission to the Church of Saint Anthony the Great is generally free, although leaving a small donation for the upkeep of its unique frescoes is highly recommended. On special occasions or for private guided visits, a symbolic fee may apply.

As it is a small temple, a visit of 20 to 30 minutes is enough to appreciate its unusual murals and mystical atmosphere. If you use an audio guide to explore the history of the miracles in greater depth, we recommend setting aside about 45 minutes.

It is unique in Bulgaria for being dedicated to healing mental illnesses and demonic possession; in fact, it still preserves the iron chain once used to restrain the 'possessed.' Its frescoes are atypical, depicting domestic scenes and flowers instead of traditional biblical canons.

Spring and autumn are ideal for enjoying the mild weather and the colors of the natural surroundings of the Melnik Earth Pyramids. Going early in the morning is recommended to avoid tourist groups and to feel the peace of the place.

Due to Melnik's topography and the fact that the church is reached by cobbled streets and steep slopes, access is difficult for wheelchairs or visitors with reduced mobility. It is recommended to wear very comfortable shoes and use walking sticks if necessary.

Just a few minutes away on foot you will find the famous Kordopulov House, the largest Bulgarian National Revival house in the area. You are also surrounded by the impressive Melnik Sand Pyramids, perfect for panoramic photos.

Bring cash in the local currency, lev, for donations and souvenir purchases, as cards are not usually accepted. Don't forget to combine your cultural visit with a tasting of the famous local wine in nearby cellars to complete the sensory experience of Melnik.
