La Casa Kordopulov es una mansión histórica del siglo XVIII en Melnik, Bulgaria, considerada una de las residencias más grandes de los Balcanes. Hoy acoge un museo que revela su arquitectura única y bodegas subterráneas legendarias.
Open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM during the high season (May to October). In the off-season, you can arrange a visit by calling +359 882 001 002. No advance booking is required, but arriving early is recommended.
General admission is 6 BGN (about €3), with discounts for students and seniors (4 BGN, about €2). Children under 7 enter free. Only cash payments in Bulgarian lev (the local currency) are accepted.
A self-guided visit takes between 45 and 60 minutes. If you include the on-site guided tour, allow about 1 hour and 15 minutes to explore all areas.
Built in 1754 for the wine merchant Manolis Kordopulov, it is one of the finest examples of Bulgarian National Revival architecture. It is especially notable for its impressive underground cellar, with capacity for 300 wine barrels.
The early hours (9:00-11:00 AM) are ideal for avoiding crowds. The best times of year are April to June and September to October, when the weather in Melnik is milder for walking.
Only the ground floor is partially accessible. The underground cellar and upper floors have steep stairs with no adaptations for wheelchairs or mobility difficulties.
The ruins of Melnik Fortress are 800 meters away, and Rozhen Monastery is 6 km away. The famous Melnik Earth Pyramids (natural rock formations) are not to be missed.
Wear non-slip shoes for the damp cellar, bring cash in Bulgarian lev, and consider arriving by taxi or private car because of the steep cobbled streets. Don’t miss the tasting of local wines in the museum shop.
