We recommend allowing between 1.5 and 2 hours to explore the main exhibitions. If you visit temporary or interactive areas, you may need more time.
It preserves more than 10,000 objects from prehistory to the present day, showing traditional Balkan life. Highlights include its collection of folk costumes, religious icons, and local crafts.
Weekday mornings are quieter. Spring and autumn offer better weather. July and August may be busier due to school holidays.
It has partial access due to the historic building. The ground floor is accessible, but the upper floors have stairs. Contact them in advance (+359 66 816 730) for specific assistance.
The open-air Etar Ethnographic Complex is 15 minutes away. We also recommend Sokolski Monastery or the House of Humour, as Gabrovo is considered Bulgaria's capital of humour.
1) Ask about audio guides in English 2) Do not miss the traditional textiles section on the second floor 3) Wear comfortable shoes: the old town has cobbled streets.
