Penha Convent is one of Brazil’s oldest Marian sanctuaries, a beacon of faith and a privileged lookout over Vitória Bay.
The Convent is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is closed on Mondays. Visits are self-guided, but we recommend checking special events on its official page: Vitória Tourism Portal.
Admission is free, although voluntary donations are appreciated to help preserve the heritage site. For groups larger than 10 people, it is recommended to contact +55 27 3132-8395 in advance.
You can explore the cloister, the church, and the gardens in about 1 hour. If you want to enjoy the panoramic views from Penha Hill at a relaxed pace, allow 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Founded in 1558, it is one of the oldest Franciscan convents in Brazil. Its colonial Baroque architecture and its 18th-century Portuguese tiles make it a key testimony to evangelization in the country.
From April to September (dry season) to avoid rain. The early morning hours are ideal for photography with soft light and fewer crowds.
Access is limited due to its historic structure: there are uneven steps and changes in level. The ground floor is partially accessible. Contact +55 27 3132-8395 for specific assistance.
In the historic center, visit the Metropolitan Cathedral (900 m away), Anchieta Palace (the state government headquarters), and Capixaba Market. More options here: Vitória Tourist Routes.
Wear comfortable shoes for the cobblestones, and bring water and sun protection. Inside, please keep silence during celebrations. We suggest viewing its virtual gallery before you go: Virtual Tour.
