Extensa playa urbana de Fortaleza con arenas blancas, aguas verdes y una animada escena de barracas que fusionan sol, mar y cultura cearense.
As a public beach, access to the sea is open 24 hours a day, but the famous 'barracas' (beach huts) usually operate from 08:00 to 17:00 or 18:00 (and until late on Thursdays). The best way to get there is by taxi or Uber from Avenida Beira Mar, a journey of about 15-20 minutes.
Entry to the beach is completely free. What you pay for is your food and drink at the barracas and, in some cases, an access fee for VIP areas with pools or water parks inside complexes such as Crocobeach.
I recommend setting aside at least half a day (around 4 to 5 hours) to enjoy the sun, the food and the relaxed atmosphere. If you plan to make the most of the pools and services of a large beach club, you can easily spend the whole day there.
It is renowned for having the best beach infrastructure in Brazil thanks to its mega-barracas and for the traditional 'Caranguejada'. Thursday nights are an unmissable cultural event where people eat crab, drink beer and enjoy comedy shows and live music.
For swimming, mornings are ideal because of the sun and the tide; for the party scene, Thursday nights are legendary. Weather-wise, from July to December there is less rain and plenty of wind, which is perfect if you enjoy kitesurfing.
The main barracas offer excellent accessibility, with ramps, paved floors and adapted restrooms. However, direct access to the sea can be difficult because of the soft sand, so it is recommended that you enjoy the facilities of the beach huts.
The beach is somewhat isolated, but about 15 minutes north by car you will find the Mucuripe neighborhood, famous for its fish market (Mercado de Peixes) and the Iracema statue, ideal for watching the sunset after your day at the beach.
The sea here has strong currents and high waves, so only swim in areas with lifeguards and avoid bringing valuables onto the sand. For safety, always stay within the area of the barracas and avoid walking through deserted stretches of the beach, especially at dusk.
