¿Sabías que esta cascada en Ubatuba fue el secreto mejor guardado de los hippies brasileños durante décadas? Ven, te cuento por qué te va a enganchar.
As a public natural attraction, Prumirim Waterfall is open 24 hours a day, although it is strongly recommended to visit only in daylight (from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) for safety. The access point is at kilometer 30 of the Rio-Santos Highway (BR-101), where you will see parked cars and a small trail leading down to the pools.
Access to the waterfall is completely free, and you do not need to buy tickets to enjoy it. However, keep in mind that Ubatuba charges a daily Environmental Preservation Fee (TPA) per vehicle, and you may also need to pay local attendants or private parking lots near the highway.
To enjoy a refreshing swim, slide down the rock (the famous 'natural slide'), and take good photos, I suggest allowing between 1 and 2 hours. It is the ideal amount of time to relax before heading over to Prumirim Beach.
More than a historic site, it is a vital ecological sanctuary of the Atlantic Forest; 'Prumirim' comes from Tupi and means something like 'small fish river.' It is culturally famous in the region for its flat rocks that form unique natural pools and slides, attracting locals and tourists for decades.
Without a doubt, the best time is to arrive very early (before 9:30 AM) to avoid the crowds and enjoy the peace of the place. The best season is during the drier months (April to August), although the water flow is impressive in summer; just be careful of flash floods.
Unfortunately, it is not an accessible place. The route involves a dirt trail, and the waterfall area consists of very slippery rocks and uneven ground that require balance and full mobility to move around safely.
The surroundings are spectacular! Right next to it you have beautiful Prumirim Beach, and from there you can take a boat taxi to visit the idyllic Prumirim Island. It is the perfect circuit: waterfall, beach, and island in a single day.
Bring strong insect repellent (the black fly, or 'borrachudo,' is very aggressive here) and be extremely careful when walking on wet rocks, as they are as slippery as soap.
