Conchas Beach is a public beach open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. To get there, you can drive along RJ-140 from downtown Cabo Frio, which takes about 20–30 minutes; there is also access on foot or by public transportation from the city, but a vehicle is recommended for nearby parking. Check the official Cabo Frio tourism website for updated maps.
Admission to Conchas Beach is completely free, as it is a public beach. You will only pay for parking if you arrive by car, which costs around R$10–20 per day depending on the location. There are no additional fees to access the beach itself.
It is recommended to spend at least 2–3 hours enjoying the sun, the sea, and a walk along the sand, but if you plan to swim or snorkel, you could extend your visit to half a day. It is a relaxed place, ideal for a short, unhurried visit.
Conchas Beach is famous for its seashells and white sands, and it is part of the Cabo Frio Natural Park, which has protected coastal ecosystems since the 16th century. Historically, this area was important for Portuguese exploration in Brazil, and today it represents the rich marine biodiversity of the Sunshine Coast region.
The best time is during the Southern Hemisphere summer (December to March), when the weather is warm and sunny, with ideal temperatures for swimming. Go early in the morning to avoid crowds and enjoy calmer waters; afternoons can be windy.
The main access is via a sandy path of about 200 meters from the parking area, which may be challenging for wheelchairs or people with reduced mobility without assistance. There are partial ramps in nearby areas, but it is recommended to contact Cabo Frio City Hall at +55 22 2647-3192 for adapted options.
Nearby you will find Fort São Mateus, a historic fortress about 10 km away, and Forte Beach with turquoise waters. You can also visit Araruama Lagoon for a contrasting landscape; everything is a short drive from Cabo Frio.
Bring sunscreen, water, and a beach umbrella, as there are not many services on the beach; wear comfortable shoes for the sandy path and respect environmental rules by taking your trash with you. If you are traveling with children, supervise them in the water; check the weather forecast on the National Institute of Meteorology website before you go.
