A natural paradise in Arraial do Cabo, known for its crystal-clear waters, white sands, and iconic access staircase.
Access is through the Pontal do Atalaia condominium; you can go up by private car (limited spaces), by taxi boat from Angels Beach, or in shared safari-style trucks. Although the beach is public, access control at the gate usually operates from 7:00 AM until sunset. To find the exact entrance, check this location on Google Maps.
Access to the beach itself is free, but if you go by car you will be charged a municipal parking fee (approximately 20–30 BRL) when entering the condominium. If you choose alternative transport, you will need to pay the cost of the boat or the shared truck for each trip.
I recommend setting aside at least half a day, around 4 hours, to enjoy the sun, the turquoise water, and explore at a relaxed pace. If you plan to watch the sunset from the upper viewpoint, consider extending your stay until late afternoon for the full experience.
They are known as the Brazilian Caribbean because of the incredible transparency of their waters and their famous wooden staircase, which offers one of the most photographed views in Brazil. In addition, the area’s geography protects the coast from strong currents, creating a natural pool perfect for swimming.
The secret is to arrive very early, preferably before 8:00 AM, to take a photo on the famous staircase without crowds and to find parking. Weekdays outside the high season, from December to February, are ideal for avoiding massive crowds.
Land access is difficult, as it involves going down a steep staircase of more than 250 steps, which is not suitable for wheelchairs or people with reduced mobility. The practical alternative is to arrive by sea using a taxi boat that drops you directly on the shore, as long as the waves allow it.
At the far right end of the beach you will find Love Grotto, a photogenic cave accessible at low tide. You are also very close to Pontal Viewpoint, ideal for watching the sunset, and just a short boat ride from Lighthouse Island.
Bring water, food, and a sunshade, as the kiosk infrastructure is limited and prices on the sand are usually high. Remember to take all your trash with you and use biodegradable sunscreen to avoid harming the marine ecosystem; for more tourist information visit Arraial Tourism.
