¿Sabías que desde esta cima los pescadores locales vigilaron submarinos alemanes en la Segunda Guerra Mundial? Escucha los secretos que el viento del Atlántico aún susurra.
Access is by car along a dirt road (private community) or by water-taxi from Praia dos Anjos beach. Access to the famous staircase is open all day, but if you're going by car, arrive very early (before 8:00 AM) as parking is limited and closes once full. You can see the exact location here: View on Google Maps.
Entry to the area is public, but if you arrive in your own vehicle, there is usually a municipal parking fee (approximately 20-30 BRL). If you opt for the water-taxi, the cost varies per trip. It's advisable to bring cash for these payments.
I recommend setting aside at least 4 hours (half a day). This will let you take the famous staircase down at a relaxed pace, enjoy the Prainhas do Pontal beaches, and explore the coast without rushing. If you want to watch the sunset from the upper viewpoint, stay until the end of the day.
It's known as the 'Brazilian Caribbean' because of the turquoise color of its waters and its white sand. Its famous wooden staircase of more than 250 steps offers one of the most iconic and photographed views in all of Brazil, combining wild nature with a dreamlike landscape.
Without a doubt, go first thing in the morning (7:00 - 8:00 AM) to avoid crowds on the staircase and to find parking. As for the time of year, the months from March to May and September to November offer good weather with less tourist saturation than peak summer.
Access via the staircase is not suitable for people with reduced mobility due to its steepness and the number of steps. The best alternative is to arrive by sea via a water-taxi that drops you directly on the sand, although it always depends on sea conditions.
Right at the end of the beach, on the right, you'll find the Gruta do Amor (Love Cave), a magical and essential corner. You're also close to Praia dos Anjos and, climbing a bit higher, the perfect viewpoints for watching the sunset.
Bring your own food and plenty of water, as kiosk infrastructure is limited or sometimes nonexistent on the sand. Don't forget high-SPF sunscreen and a bag to take your trash back with you, helping preserve this natural paradise.
