Discover the historic and cultural heart of Curitiba, a place full of stories, art, and traditions.
Largo da Ordem itself is an open public space. However, its main attraction is the Largo da Ordem Market, which takes place every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is located in the heart of Curitiba’s historic center and can easily be reached on foot from several central areas or by bus. A good landmark is Dr. Claudino dos Santos Street.
Good news! Visiting Largo da Ordem is completely free. It is a public, open space for everyone to enjoy its historic atmosphere and the events held there, especially the famous Sunday market. There are no entrance fees or tickets.
If your visit coincides with the Largo da Ordem Market on Sunday, I recommend allowing 2 to 3 hours so you can explore it at a relaxed pace, enjoy the handicrafts, try some typical food, and soak up the atmosphere. If you are only planning to stroll through the historic area outside market hours, 1 hour will be enough to admire the architecture and surroundings.
Largo da Ordem is the historic heart of Curitiba, where the city truly began to take shape. Here you will find the Church of the Third Order of Saint Francis of the Wounds, the oldest church in the city, and Casa Romário Martins, the oldest building. It is a key site that tells the story of Curitiba’s evolution from its beginnings to the present day, preserving its colonial and cultural essence.
Definitely, the best time to visit Largo da Ordem is on a Sunday morning, when the Handicrafts and Traditional Food Market takes place. It is the liveliest time, full of music and atmosphere. As for Curitiba’s weather, the spring months from September to November and the autumn months from March to May are usually the most pleasant, with moderate temperatures.
Largo da Ordem is an area with cobbled streets, which can make wheelchair access somewhat difficult. However, the surface is relatively flat, and the Curitiba city authorities have worked on improving sidewalk accessibility in some sections. It is advisable to go with a companion if assistance is needed.
Plenty! You are right in the middle of the historic center. Nearby you will find 15th of November Street (a pedestrian street), the Passeio Público, the Solar do Barão (which hosts exhibitions), and several museums such as the Paraná Museum. And of course, don’t miss the historic bars and restaurants in the area.
If you go on a Sunday, arrive early, before 10 a.m., to avoid the biggest crowds and find better parking options if you are driving. Bring cash if you want to buy handicrafts or try food at the market, as not all vendors accept cards. And of course, don’t forget your camera to capture the historic beauty of the place and enjoy the atmosphere!
