Discover the history, architecture, and soul of the Church of the Nativity of Mary of Ichuac, a treasure in the heart of Puqueldón.
The church is usually open during the day, but we recommend visiting in the morning (9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) or afternoon (3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.). For exact hours, contact the Parish of Puqueldón at +56 65 2 XXX XXX. It is a good idea to confirm before your visit.
Admission is free, although voluntary donations for the maintenance of the historic church are appreciated. No prior reservation is required for individual visits.
It is recommended to spend between 30 and 45 minutes to appreciate the architecture and interior details. If you plan to photograph the exterior and enjoy the surroundings, add 20 more minutes.
It is part of the iconic Churches of Chiloé World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Built with native wood in the 19th century, it represents the fusion of local Indigenous techniques with the European missionary tradition.
The ideal season is from December to February (Southern Hemisphere summer), when the weather allows easier access. Clear spring days (September-November) are also excellent for photography with bright light.
Access has some limitations: there are steps at the entrance and uneven floors inside. It does not have specialized ramps. Assistance is recommended for wheelchair users.
On Lemuy Island you can visit: Chelín Chapel (15 km), Puqueldón Viewpoint (views of Calbuco Volcano), and the church of Detif (30 minutes by car). More info at Chiloé Tourism.
