As a public natural body of water, access to the dam's perimeter is open 24 hours a day. It is located just 15 km from the city of La Rioja and is easily reached via National Route 75, along a scenic mountain road.

Access to the viewpoints and the lakeshore is completely free. However, if you wish to use private facilities such as campgrounds, yacht clubs, or rent kayaks, these services do have specific costs or fees.

If you are just passing through to admire the scenery, 1 hour is enough. Ideally, you should set aside at least half a day (3 to 4 hours) to enjoy a picnic, water activities, or peaceful walks.

Built in 1930, it is a fundamental work of Argentine hydraulic engineering that made irrigation and life in the valley possible. Its construction transformed the local geography, turning an arid area into the tourist and productive oasis you see today.

Spring and summer are ideal for enjoying the warm weather and water activities. We recommend going at sunset, when the sun dips behind the hills and creates a unique visual spectacle on the water.

The main viewpoints along the paved road are accessible by vehicle and offer good views without physical effort. However, going down to the water's edge can be difficult due to the uneven, rocky terrain.

You are at the gateway to the La Rioja Coast; do not miss the famous Tunnel that cuts through the mountain right nearby. You can also continue your journey to the picturesque village of Sanagasta, located just a few kilometers away.
