Donde las piedras susurran secretos de chicha, arte y rebeldías bajo el sol jujeño
Paseo de los Colorados is an outdoor trail, so it is open to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can reach it on foot from downtown Tilcara; the most common starting point is near the bridge over the Rio Grande. We recommend visiting during daylight hours to fully appreciate its stunning colors.
Good news! Access to Paseo de los Colorados is completely free. There is no need to buy a ticket or pay any fees to enjoy this natural wonder, making it an excellent and affordable way to explore the beauty of Tilcara.
To complete the full trail and enjoy the panoramic views, we suggest setting aside between 1 and 2 hours. This will allow you to walk at your own pace, take photographs, and take in the scale of the landscapes without rushing. If you love photography or simply want to relax, you may want to extend your visit a little longer.
The striking colors of Paseo de los Colorados are the result of millions of years of geological processes. They are caused by the presence of different minerals in the sedimentary rocks, such as iron oxides and clays, which were deposited and oxidized over time, creating a palette of reds, ochres, and greens. It is a living testimony to the history of the Earth.
The best time to visit is early in the morning or at sunset, when the sunlight strikes the rock formations at an angle, intensifying their colors and creating dramatic shadows, perfect for photography. As for the time of year, spring and autumn offer more pleasant temperatures, although any time with good weather is ideal.
Unfortunately, Paseo de los Colorados is an uneven dirt trail with some slopes and changes in elevation, which makes access difficult for people with reduced mobility or those using wheelchairs. Caution and comfortable footwear are recommended. If you need more specific accessibility information for the region, you can contact the Jujuy Tourism Secretariat.
Tilcara is rich in attractions. Very close by, you can visit the Pucará of Tilcara, a restored pre-Inca fortress, the High-Altitude Botanical Garden, and the Dr. Eduardo Casanova Archaeological Museum. The town center also offers artisan markets and the Church of Tilcara, ideal for exploring and enjoying the local culture.
Absolutely! We recommend bringing water, sunscreen, and a hat, as the sun can be intense. Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes suitable for walking on dirt trails. Don’t forget your camera to capture the scenery. And of course, be respectful of the natural environment: do not leave trash behind and stay on the marked paths. Enjoy the magic of the place!
