Dique El Cajón is a public natural area and is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. You can get there by car by following National Route 38 to Capilla del Monte and then taking the signs toward the dam. Parking is available nearby.
Good news! Access to Dique El Cajón is completely free. There are no entrance fees to enjoy the views, relax on its shores, or take part in recreational activities in the surrounding area.
We recommend allowing between 1 and 3 hours for your visit to Dique El Cajón. This gives you enough time to walk around the area, enjoy the panoramic view, take photos, and, if you wish, sit and admire the landscape. If you plan to have a picnic or do any water activities, you may want to stay longer.
Dique El Cajón is an engineering work that is vital to Capilla del Monte, built mainly to regulate flooding from the Dolores River and supply water to the town. Its construction in the 1970s transformed the landscape and turned it into an important recreational area and tourist attraction thanks to its natural beauty.
The best time to visit Dique El Cajón is during spring and autumn, when the weather is milder and the landscapes are filled with vibrant colors. During the day, the early morning hours or sunset offer spectacular light for photography and a more peaceful atmosphere.
Access to the shores and the main lookout areas at Dique El Cajón is usually paved or has well-maintained paths, which makes access easier for people with reduced mobility. However, some rougher areas or dirt roads leading to the beaches may present greater challenges. It is always advisable to check with the Capilla del Monte Tourism Office for more specific accessibility information.
Capilla del Monte is full of wonders! Very close to Dique El Cajón, you can explore the famous Uritorco Hill, the Covered Street for shopping and dining, or the mysterious Pueblo Encanto. I also recommend visiting Los Terrones or La Toma spa resort for a day in nature. Don’t forget to check the Capilla del Monte Tourist Guide for more options.
To make the most of your visit, I suggest bringing sunscreen, a hat, and water, especially in summer, since there is little shade. If you enjoy photography, don’t forget your camera. If you plan to have a picnic, bring your own food and be sure to take all your trash with you. And of course, get ready to enjoy the peace and natural beauty of the place!
