El lago que nació de un glaciar y casi muere de un susto: descubre por qué los pastores dormían con un ojo abierto aquí
Juclar Lake is a natural site accessible year-round. You can reach it from Soldeu by taking the CS-250 road toward El Tarter and following the signs to the Juclar Refuge; the final access is on foot via a well-marked hiking trail. It is advisable to check the weather conditions before going, as mountain weather can change quickly.
Access to Juclar Lake and its natural surroundings is completely free, as it is a public-use area within the Andorran landscape. However, if you plan to use the Grau Roig cable car or transportation to the area, those services have their own fees. You can check prices at Pirineus Andorra.
To fully enjoy the visit, it is recommended to allow between 2 and 3 hours, including the walking time to the lake viewpoint. If you plan to do the full mountain route or enjoy a picnic, you can extend it to 4–5 hours. The pace depends on your fitness level and how long you want to spend admiring the views.
Juclar Lake is known for being the largest glacial lake in Andorra, located at an altitude of 2,300 meters. It is part of the typical Pyrenean landscape and an example of the glacial geology that shaped the region during the last Ice Age. In addition, its surroundings have historically been used by shepherds and hikers exploring the Incles Valley.
The best time to visit is from mid-June to early October, when the trails are free of snow and the weather is more stable. To avoid crowds, it is advisable to go on weekdays or early in the morning. In winter, access may be restricted by snowfall and requires specialized equipment.
Due to its mountain location, access to the lake is not suitable for wheelchairs or people with reduced mobility because of the uneven terrain and elevation changes. However, there are accessible viewing points in the lower part of Incles Valley, such as the Coma del Forat viewpoint. For more information about tourist accessibility in Andorra, visit Visit Andorra.
In the surrounding area, you can explore other glacial lakes such as Lake Illa, the Juclar Refuge to rest or eat, and the Grau Roig ski resort in the area. It is also recommended to visit the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Andorra la Vella or Caldea Thermal Spa to combine nature and culture. Find more information at Turisme Andorra.
Bring suitable hiking footwear, water, and sun protection, as sun exposure at altitude is intense. Check the weather forecast on the Andorran Meteorological Service website before setting out, and remember that there are no food services at the lake, so bring food if you need it. Also, follow the official guidelines to protect the local flora and fauna.
