La Presa de Koudiat Acerdoune, en la provincia de Bouira, Argelia, es una emblemática obra de ingeniería hidráulica que domina el paisaje montañoso y gestiona recursos vitales para la región.
The dam is open all day, but visiting during daylight hours (6:00 AM-6:00 PM) is recommended. It can be reached by car from Bouira via the W110 road (30 minutes). There is no direct public transport. Check routes at the Algerian National Tourism Office.
Access is free, as it is a public infrastructure site. However, some technical areas may require special permission. We recommend confirming at the Bouira tourism office.
A typical visit lasts 1-2 hours, enough time to enjoy the panoramic views, take photographs, and go for a short walk around the reservoir.
It is one of Algeria's largest dams (120 m high), built between 2002 and 2007. It provides drinking water to 5 million people and hydroelectric power to the entire Kabylia region.
Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November), when temperatures are mild (18-25°C) and the reservoir is at optimal levels. Avoid July-August because of the intense heat.
The main area has basic access, but the terrain is uneven in many places. There are no specialized ramps or adapted restrooms. Check with the Ministry of Tourism for specific details.
We recommend: 1) Bouira Casbah (25 km), 2) Tikjda National Park (50 km, ideal for hiking), and 3) the hot springs of Sidi M'hamed Bou Qobrine. More info at Algeria Guide.
1) Wear comfortable shoes for uneven ground 2) Always bring sun protection and water 3) Respect restricted areas (technical zone) 4) Visit on weekdays to avoid crowds. Emergency contact: +213 26 90 20 00.
