A fascinating journey through geological eras and traces of human activity in the heart of Algeria.
The cave is usually open every day during daylight hours (generally from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM), but we recommend checking by contacting the Ain Témouchent Tourism Office at +213 43 30 15 76 or visiting its official website: Algerian Ministry of Tourism. Entry is free, but you will need to arrive by private vehicle or taxi from Ain Témouchent.
Access to the cave is currently free of charge. No tickets or advance reservations are required, although it is advisable to confirm any possible regulation changes with the local tourism office: Algerian National Tourism Office.
A full visit takes between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on your pace and interest in exploring geological details. This includes the walk from the parking area (5 minutes) and touring the interior formations.
It is a natural karst formation of geological and ecological interest, where evidence of ancient human occupation has been found. Today it is a protected site for its scenic value and as a testimony to Algeria's natural heritage.
The ideal season is spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November), when temperatures are mild. The best time to visit is early in the morning (before 11:00 AM) to avoid the heat and possible crowds.
The uneven terrain and presence of natural steps make access difficult for wheelchairs. Non-slip footwear and supervision of children are recommended. Contact the tourism office for specific details: Official link.
We recommend: 1) the beaches of Ain Témouchent (20 km), 2) the Roman city of Siga (15 km), and 3) Tlemcen (85 km) with its Andalusian heritage. More info: Algeria Guide.
Bring sports shoes, water, a flashlight (although there is basic lighting), and sunscreen. Avoid visiting after heavy rain. If you are going in a group, consider hiring a local guide in Ain Témouchent for detailed explanations.
