❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What are the visiting hours and how do you get to Theth National Park?

The park is open year-round, 24 hours a day. The best way to get there is by car from Shkodër (3–4 hours). The road is usually passable only in summer (June–September). In winter, a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Check current conditions at AlbGuide.

Do you have to pay an entrance fee to visit Theth?

There is no official entrance fee for the national park. Some attractions in the village (such as the Lock-in Tower) may charge a small fee (€1–3). Parking in Theth is usually free.

How much time is needed to visit Theth?

We recommend at least 2 days: 1 to arrive and explore the valley, and another for hikes such as Grunas Waterfall or the Blue Eye. For intensive trekking (for example, the Valbona–Theth Valley route), 3–4 days are needed. More information at Thethi Guide.

What historical importance does this park have?

Theth is a symbol of Albania’s mountain culture. Its famous Lock-in Tower (Kulla e Ngujimit) reflects the ancestral customary justice system of the Kanun. The traditional stone houses are centuries-old architectural heritage.

What is the best time to visit Theth?

From June to September: pleasant temperatures (15–25°C), accessible trails, and green landscapes. July and August are the busiest months. April and May bring fuller waterfalls. In winter (December–March), there is snow and access is difficult.

Is it accessible for people with reduced mobility?

It is not recommended: the routes are uneven mountain trails with steep slopes. Only the village center (the church and the tower) has basic access. There are no adapted toilets or specialized transport.

What other interesting places are near Theth?

Highlights include: 1) Grunas Waterfall (40-minute walk) 2) the Blue Eye of Kaprre (turquoise pool, 2 hours) 3) Valbona Valley (connected by a famous trekking route) 4) Grunas Canyon. More routes at OutdoorAlbania.

What practical tips would you give for visiting Theth?
