The castle is open every day from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm in summer and until sunset in winter (varies by season). It is 5 km from Shkodër, Albania. You can get there by taxi (10 minutes from the center) or on foot (1 hour with panoramic views). Check updated hours at Albanian Tourism.
General admission costs 200 Albanian lek (about €2). Children under 12 and residents enter free. Students with ID pay 100 lek. No advance booking is required.
We recommend allowing 1 to 2 hours. This gives you time to explore the walls, towers, the interior archaeological museum, and enjoy panoramic views of Lake Skadar and the Buna and Drin rivers.
It is famous for the legend of Rozafa: a woman walled up alive within its walls to ensure its construction (4th century BC). It was also key in the resistance against the Ottomans and Venetians. Its museum displays Illyrian and Roman finds.
Spring (April-June) and autumn (September-October) for mild temperatures. Avoid July-August because of extreme heat. Sunset is magical for photos. Arrive before 10 am or after 5 pm to avoid crowds.
The main access has uneven steps and cobbled ground. The upper areas can only be reached by narrow stairs. There are no ramps or elevators, so it is not recommended for wheelchairs or severe mobility difficulties.

Essentials: non-slip footwear (uneven surfaces), water, and sun protection (very little shade available). Do not miss the view from the Venetian Tower. On your way out, try local dishes such as 'baked lamb and yogurt' in restaurants in Shkodër.
