A fascinating journey through an Albanian geological formation, revealing the secrets of nature and the human past.
The cave is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM in high season (May-September). For updated hours, contact the Librazhd tourism office at +355 68 123 4567. It is reached by a signposted secondary road from the village center (30 minutes on foot). More info on the official municipal website.
Access is currently free, but it is recommended to bring cash in case local guide services are available (around €5-10). There are no official ticket offices. Check for possible changes on the Albania tourism portal.
The visit takes about 45 minutes (an 800 m route). This includes time for photos and basic information. If you combine it with a picnic or nearby hiking, allow 2 hours in total.
It is an important archaeological site with evidence of human occupation since the Neolithic. It served as a refuge during Ottoman invasions and preserves medieval inscriptions on its rocky walls.
We recommend spring (April-June) or autumn (September-October) because of the mild temperatures inside the cave (15-18°C). Avoid July-August because of larger crowds and winter rains that can make access more difficult.
Not completely. There are uneven natural steps and rocky ground on the final section. Partial access is possible up to the first viewpoint (200 m from the entrance).
Within 15 km you can find: the Ottoman Bridge of Hotolisht (15th century), Lake Shumbat, ideal for fishing, and the Mali i Polisit hiking route. More suggestions at Albania tourism.
Non-slip footwear (wet floors), a flashlight (although there is basic lighting), and water. There are no bathrooms or nearby services. Avoid going alone: it is better with a local guide who can explain the key points.
