A natural sanctuary of unmatched biodiversity and scenic beauty in the heart of Albania.
As a natural park, it is open 24 hours a day, but I strongly recommend going during daylight to enjoy the views and for safety. It is located about 10 km from the city of Korçë, and the best way to get there is by car or taxi, since public transport does not drop you off at the exact trail entrance.
Entry to Drenovë Fir National Park is completely free, so your wallet can relax. You do not need to make any advance reservation; just arrive, respect nature, and enjoy the fresh air without paying a cent.
To do it properly and without rushing, set aside between 3 and 4 hours. That gives you enough time to hike one of the trails to the rock formations, see the centuries-old fir trees, and take spectacular photos without having to hurry.
This place is a sanctuary for the silver fir (Abies alba) and is home to unique geological formations such as the famous 'Capi Rock' (Guri i Capit). It is a vital green lung in Albania's natural history and a refuge for wildlife such as the brown bear and the wolf.
Without a doubt, spring and autumn are the winning seasons because of the weather and the forest colors. In winter, snow can make the paths inaccessible or dangerous if you are not an experienced mountain hiker, so it is best to avoid that season if you are visiting casually.
To be honest: no. It is mountain terrain with uneven trails, rocks, and slopes that are not adapted for wheelchairs or people with serious mobility difficulties. It is a wild nature experience that requires full mobility.
You are very close to Korçë, known as the 'Little Paris' of Albania, where you can visit the fantastic National Museum of Medieval Art. Combining a morning trek in Drenovë with a cultural and gastronomic afternoon in the city is the perfect plan.
Wear hiking boots (forget smooth-soled sneakers), bring plenty of water because there are no cafés inside, and download the map to your phone before leaving Korçë because signal can be unreliable. And please, take your trash with you and leave the park better than you found it.
