¿Sabías que un tirano sanguinario encontró aquí su oasis de paz... y quizás su debilidad?
Benja Thermal Baths are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as they are located in a natural outdoor setting. To get there, it is usually recommended to drive from Përmet, following the signs to the thermal pools. It is a scenic journey of about 20–30 minutes through stunning landscapes. Here is a Google Maps location to help you find your way more easily: Benja Thermal Baths on Google Maps.
Good news! Access to the Benja thermal pools is completely free. However, there is a small parking fee if you arrive by car, usually around 200 lek (approximately 2 euros), charged at the entrance to the road leading to the baths. A small price for a great pleasure!
To fully enjoy Benja Thermal Baths, I would recommend setting aside at least 2 to 3 hours. That gives you enough time to soak in several of the thermal pools, admire the famous Ottoman bridge, and take a short walk around the area. If you feel like exploring nearby trails or simply relaxing longer, you could easily spend half a day there.
The waters of Benja have been known for their healing properties since ancient times, rich in sulfur and minerals, ideal for skin and bone ailments. The impressive Kadiu Bridge, which crosses the canyon above the waters, dates from the Ottoman period (18th century) and is an architectural gem that adds a magical touch to the landscape. It is a perfect combination of nature and cultural heritage!
The best time to visit is during spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October), when the weather is pleasant and the landscape is lush. In summer, it can be very crowded. As for the time of day, I suggest going early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the crowds and enjoy a more peaceful experience, with beautiful light for photos.
Unfortunately, access to the Benja thermal pools can be difficult for people with reduced mobility or wheelchair users. The dirt path from the parking area to the pools is uneven and steep in some sections, and the areas around the pools are not adapted. I recommend checking a travel guide specifically for people with reduced mobility or looking for information on travel forums.
Absolutely! Përmet is known as the 'City of Roses' and has plenty of charm. You can explore the town center with its famous rock offering panoramic views, visit St. Mary’s Church in Leusë, or try the delicious local cuisine in its restaurants. The region is ideal for nature lovers and hikers. Here is a link with more information about Përmet: Tourist information about Përmet.
Absolutely! I recommend bringing a swimsuit, a towel, suitable walking shoes (for rocks and uneven ground), and insect repellent. Also bring a bottle of water, as there are not many shops nearby. If you go in high season, try to arrive early or late to avoid the crowds. And of course, do not forget your camera to capture the beauty of the place and the Ottoman bridge!
