The archaeological site of Apollonia, which includes the Temple of Apollo, is open daily from 9:00 to 18:00 in high season (April to October) and from 9:00 to 16:00 in winter. It is located 12 km from Fier and can be reached by local bus (20–30 minutes) or taxi; check the official website of Albania's Ministry of Tourism for updates.
Admission to the archaeological park costs 500 ALL (approximately 4.5 EUR) for adults, 200 ALL for students, and is free for children under 12. Tickets are purchased at the site's main ticket office.
It is recommended to allow 1 to 2 hours to explore the temple, the columns, and the surrounding ruins at a relaxed pace. If you also include the on-site museum, plan for about 2.5 hours in total.
Built in the 5th century BC, this Doric temple dedicated to Apollo was the religious center of the ancient Greek colony of Apollonia, one of the most important in the Illyrian Adriatic. Its impressive marble columns symbolize Hellenic influence in Albania, and it was mentioned by Cicero in his writings.
Spring (April to June) or autumn (September to October) are ideal because of the mild weather and fewer tourists; avoid the height of summer due to the intense heat. Visit early in the morning to enjoy perfect light and avoid crowds.
The site has uneven ground with cobbled paths and stairs leading to the temple, which makes it poorly accessible for wheelchairs. There is an accessible initial viewing area, but assistance is recommended for exploring further; contact +355 69 20 45 678 for details.
At the same site, visit the Apollonia Museum with mosaics and artifacts; nearby, explore the ruins of the ancient theater and the agora. About 40 km away, head to Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage city, or to the beaches of the Albanian Riviera.
Bring water, a hat, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes for the rocky terrain; download an audio guide at iaudioguia.com to enrich the experience. Go with a local guide if you prefer detailed stories, and respect the site rules by avoiding touching the ruins.
