The park is open year-round, but access in winter can be difficult due to snow. The best route is from Peshkopi (40 km, 1h30'). Check current conditions at the Albanian Ministry of Tourism and contact the local tourist office (+355 68 217 8480).
There is currently no entrance fee. However, we recommend confirming on the Ministry of Culture website before your visit. Some areas may require special permits for trekking activities.
It is recommended to spend a full day (7-8 hours) enjoying the main trails, glacial lakes, and alpine meadows. Bring food and water, as there are no services inside the park.
It is famous for its unique biodiversity, with 1,250 plant species and protected wildlife such as bears and wolves. It is home to 12 glacial lakes considered natural monuments. More info at the UNESCO tentative list.
From May to September to see the alpine flowers at their peak. July-August offers the best conditions, but also more visitors. In winter (December-March), it is ideal for snowy landscapes, although some roads are closed.
The mountainous terrain limits access. Only areas near Lake Lule have accessible paths. Contact Albania Tourism for special assistance.
