Immerse yourself in the astonishing biodiversity and unique landscapes of one of Albania's most important protected areas. Discover the history, nature, and secrets of this paradise.
The park is open 24 hours a day all year round, although the visitor center operates from 8:00 to 16:00. It is easily accessible by road from Divjakë (about 10 km away), with parking available; use GPS or check the official map at the Protected Areas Agency.
Entry to the park is free for all visitors. Only small fees may apply for guided tours or boat use on the lagoon, around 5 to 10 euros.
A typical visit lasts 2 to 4 hours for the main trails and birdwatching. If you take a full lagoon tour, allow half a day or a full day to enjoy it without rushing.
Declared a national park in 2004 and a Ramsar site since 2004, it protects the Karavasta Lagoon, one of Albania's most important wetlands for migratory birds such as pelicans and flamingos. It is vital for biodiversity and the Adriatic coastal ecosystem.
Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) are ideal for seeing migratory birds. Go at sunrise or sunset for the best sightings and less heat in summer.
The main trails are unpaved and not fully wheelchair accessible due to the natural terrain and lagoons. The visitor center is accessible, and boat tours are recommended for a more adapted experience; contact +355 69 20 45 678 for options.
Nearby are the beaches of Divjakë (5 km), the ancient site of Apollonia (40 km), and the city of Berat (UNESCO, 60 km). You can also explore the Narta Lagoon for more nature.
Bring mosquito repellent, binoculars, water, and comfortable shoes for muddy trails. Book guided tours at akzm.gov.al and go by car, as public transport is limited.
