An imposing mountain massif in Albania, with snow-capped peaks and deep gorges, steeped in history and ancient legends.
Tomorr Plateau is open year-round. The most common access point is from Ura Vajgurore (30 minutes by car) to the start of the main trail. There is no direct public transport, but you can contact local guides. More details are available on the official website of Albania's national parks.
Access is completely free because it is a protected natural area. You may only need a budget for private transport or local guides, which are recommended for poorly marked trails.
It is recommended to allow at least 3 to 5 hours. This includes time for the ascent (1.5 to 2 hours), exploring the plateau, and the descent. The full excursion can take 6 to 7 hours if you complete the entire route.
It is a sacred site for the Bektashi community, where according to tradition Abbas Ali was buried. The summit is home to the Kulmak Tekke monastery, a place of annual pilgrimage every August 20 to 25.
From May to September, when the weather is stable and there is no snow. July and August are busier because of pilgrims. Spring is ideal for seeing wildflowers. Avoid winter due to snow and dangerous trails.
It is not accessible for wheelchairs. The trails are uneven and steep, with medium to high difficulty. It is only recommended for people in good physical condition. There is no support infrastructure.
Visit Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (40 km away), known as the city of a thousand windows and its castle. Also see the Osum Canyon (60 km) and Ardenica Monastery (55 km).
