Ruinas de una antigua biblioteca vinculada al senado en el sitio arqueológico de Apollonia, Albania, que revela el esplendor de la civilización grecorromana. Un tesoro de saber y poder en medio de colinas mediterráneas.
The Archaeological Park, where the library ruins are located, is usually open every day from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM in summer and until 4:00 PM in winter. I recommend checking before you go, as opening hours may vary depending on the tourist season. You can see the exact location here: View on Google Maps.
Admission is not free. General entry to the Apollonia Archaeological Park costs around 600 LEK (approximately 5–6 euros), which includes access to the library, the museum, and the rest of the ruins. It is a small investment for the immense history you are about to experience.
To soak up the atmosphere and see both the Library, the Odeon, and the museum, allow between 2 and 3 hours. If you only want a quick photo at the library facade, it will take about 20 minutes, but you would miss the magic of the rest of the complex.
Absolutely. Apollonia was a vital center of learning where Emperor Augustus himself studied; Cicero called it 'a great and important city.' The library stands as testimony to that intellectual and cultural power of antiquity.
Spring or early autumn are ideal for avoiding Albania's oppressive heat. As for the time of day, try to go at sunset; the golden light on the ancient stones of the facade creates a spectacular visual effect for your photographs.
You should be cautious. Although the museum area is more accessible, the path to the library and the outdoor ruins has uneven ground, gravel, and changes in level that make access difficult for wheelchairs or standard strollers.
Take the opportunity to visit Ardenica Monastery, about 20 minutes away by car, an architectural and religious gem. You are also close to the city of Fier if you need services or local cuisine.
Wear very comfortable closed shoes, as you will be walking on ancient stones and dirt paths. Do not forget water and sun protection, because there is little shade in the open areas of the ruins. To understand what you are seeing, a specialized audio guide is your best companion.
